Welcome to Mystery Crime Blog

In 1998, if someone had told me I would be spending the next eight years of my life involved in injustice, I would have said "You are stark raving mad!". Well, I am here to eat those words.

In 1997, a friend was telling me about twin sisters, Betty Wilson and Peggy Lowe, from Alabama who were arrested and tried for supposedly hiring an alcoholic, drug addict con-man, James Dennison White, to kill Betty's wealthy husband, Dr. Jack Wilson, who was a very well-liked and well-known eye doctor in Huntsville. Both sisters were tried on the same evidence and lying testimony. Betty was convicted and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole because she was a rich bitch and slept with a black man in Alabama. Peggy, the saintly one, was acquitted. The convicted con-man, who never really admitted to killing the doctor, has come up for parole several times but is still incarcerated.

After spending six years studying this case including both trial transcripts, putting up an extensive website (http://hankford.com/bettywilson) and spending the remaining two years putting together a book about this case Killer For Hire - The Final Chapter of the Alabama Twins Murder Case, I, as many others, believe that the real killer of the doctor is walking around free. Neither of the twin sisters had a motive to have the good doctor put away but the doctor's ex-wife and son did.

As time permits, I hope to present other similar cases of injustice along with information on books, movies, TV shows, video games, etc., related to mystery crime. In the meantime please visit http://mysterycrimescene.com/.

The Thriller of Forgiveness

Monday, March 17, 2014

Forgiveness is without doubt one of the hardest issues to do in life, as it’s much easier to retaliate in variety to an individual who has damage you and maintain maintain of that hatred in your heart in direction of them. However, as Lewis Smedes stated: “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” You bind yourself to a different whenever you hold them in charge, but you are likely to do your self more damage when you seek revenge or can’t forgive a person.

Forgiveness will not be about letting someone off the hook, or forgetting or letting people walk throughout you. Let your self feel the harm, disappointment and anger that you’re entitled to really feel when another individual does something out of line. Talk to them, tell them how it makes you’re feeling, inform them off if necessary. For a brief period, actually let your self really feel all the emotion that naturally sweeps over you; cry, wallow, stomp around. With a view to forgive you should first perceive, so after a while, attempt to see the situation from all angles. You needn’t change your opinion, however it can be useful to see why somebody has acted in a sure way. For instance, if a friend has picked a struggle or argument with you for no obvious cause, take into account that there may be things occurring in their private life that you are not aware of; they might just be taking it out on the closest thing to them- you.

Forgiving is on no account synonymous with forgetting; quite the alternative in fact. In forgiving somebody, you could have gone by the toughest bit, you don’t bury your head within the sand, yet you overcome the ache, move on, however you still remember.

Forgiving someone doesn’t meant that things necessarily go back to the way in which they had been before either.

You may nonetheless forgive somebody, for instance a dishonest companion, but circumstances and the different facet to this person implies that you should end the relationship and move on together with your life; one thing you might be only in a position to actually do with peace of mind when you can forgive them for their actions. Obviously they’re in the mistaken and you’ll want to do all method of issues to harm them back, but finally it is going to eat at you if you’re not able to overcome it, inflicting you to have other issues sooner or later similar to dedication issues or jealousy in direction of others.

Making an attempt to drive yourself to overlook shouldn’t be a good idea; you’ll simply pressure the problem to the back of your mind the place it is going to cover with resentment and hatred till one thing occurs which makes it resurface and trigger even greater problems; perhaps even in future, unrelated relationships.
Forgiveness can take time and it is not a straightforward state to achieve; to try to really feel this instantly after someone has hurt you’ll not assist in the long run, as it is not going to be how you naturally feel when you’re honest with yourself. In the event you can overcome this, then you will be able to move on with a clear thoughts, conscience and heart and you will feel the results.

However in the work of a homicide cleanup we coordinate with law enforcement to make sure the crime scene has been released and to help understand the events of the homicide and what transpired so that our cleaners have a good overall understand of how many rooms may of been affected even if just in a small way. We also work in a homicide clean up where if a CSI investigation takes place then we must also cleanup fingerprint dust. Sometimes the assailant was in the home at the time of the police arriving and the police may of used tear gas on the home to prevent the assailant from eluding capture and arrest. In any case by working with the police we can a better understanding of the depth of the homicide cleanup.

Beyond these elements the blood cleanup of the homicide scene must be carefully cleaned or removed. The sub-flooring, ceiling, and walls must be carefully screened to make sure no blood splatter is present. How To Prevent Crimes Against The Elderly

In 2010, According to the National Center For Victims of Crime (http://www.victimsofcrime.org/library/crime-information-and-statistics/elder-victimization ), people 65 years and older, who made up 15 percent of the U.S. population, experienced the lowest rate of violent victimization of any age group at 2.4 victimizations per 1,000. Unfortunately, the perpetrators of physically violent crime against the elderly are most likely to be their spouses (57%) or other family members (29%). Despite being the least frequent victims of violent crime, the elderly seem to be inordinately frequent victims of other types of crime, particularly in the areas of identity theft and financial exploitation by family members. Adults between the ages of 60 and 70 are also three times as likely to be the victims of emotional mistreatment as those who are over 70, with the perpetrators primarily being their spouse or partner (25%) or other family members (23%).

Based upon these statistics, the most effective measures to prevent crimes against our elderly would seem to contradict the most logical assumptions, such as avoiding placing themselves in circumstances that are encouraging to opportunistic, violent criminals, such as venturing out alone, especially at night and/or in areas known to have high rates of violent crime. But even more critical - and tragic - is the need to protect the elderly from the very people in whom they should be able to trust - their own family members.

Perhaps the single biggest factor that facilitates crime against the elderly is the tendency toward the narrowing of their social networks as they advance in age. All too often, elderly individuals withdraw from many activities, relying solely upon family members and a few proximally-located friends for all their interactions. By so distancing themselves from regular contact with a broader network, they find themselves increasingly vulnerable to exploitation by the few remaining members of that network, as well as being increasingly isolated from outside support, should their family members or other remaining acquaintances or strangers exploit or otherwise victimize them.

It follows that perhaps the best deterrent to crimes – both violent and exploitive - against seniors is their continued involvement in a broader network. Where such networks are not established and sustained organically of their own accord, becoming members of loosely organized groups can serve the purpose well. Many communities have such groups already in place, often located in community centers, assisted living facilities, and churches. Where no such group exists, it may be necessary to form new ones, sponsored or supported by local charities, law enforcement organizations, religious organizations, or established in conjunction with local human services offices.

As part of their services, such organizations could provide supportive reinforcement to seniors, to stress to them that they should not tolerate exploitation, and to educate them in the appropriate measures to take if they find that they are the victims of crime or exploitation. Too many seniors silently endure abuse by family members out of fear – fear that they will be abandoned if they object, or be subjected to even worse abuse should they take action to end their mistreatment.

Even a matter as simple as filling out a police report can be daunting to one who has to a great extent been apart from the workings of the world beyond their own walls. Teaching a senior how to respond to a criminal act can go a long way toward restoring their confidence, thus making them a more troublesome target to predators both familiar and unfamiliar.

Just as important as teaching and supporting seniors in reporting crimes against them is actually helping to prevent the crimes in the first place. Where members of a younger demographic are accustomed to receiving word of the latest scams via online searches, news sources, and social networks, the elderly, being less likely to utilize such modern communications tools as the Internet, cell phones, and the like, are far more likely to miss warnings of scams and other criminal activities of which they might be likely to be the targets. Again, this is an area where attendance in a workshop offered by the networking group could go a long way toward reducing their chances of being victimized.

Finally, it would seem logical to push for imposition of stiffer penalties for crimes involving elder abuse, along the same lines as the currently applied addition of Hate Crime status to crimes committed against specific racial, ethnic, or alternative lifestyle groups. By helping our elderly to reduce their level of vulnerability, while at the same time adding to the legal repercussions for victimizing them as a group, we may be able to further reduce the harm inflicted upon a group that has historically been revered and respected, rather than abused.
